BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised in Southern California in a semi-rural setting, with farms, ranches, beaches,  mountains nearby; and summers spent touring the picturesque United States - Linda began artistically representing her experiences at a very early age.  Her Pennsylvania Dutch roots and travels in Europe have also inspired her to express her creative ability.

Linda's family wanted her to follow in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother with a nursing career. She obtained a degree but her heart was never truly in that field.  She had always been drawn to artistic endeavors; painting, drawing, piano, guitar, sculpture, poetry -  involving herself in artistic creations for her family and friends at every opportunity.

She attempted an art class but immediately dropped out, rejecting their trying to change her personal style. This, by definition, classifies Linda as a "folk artist" due to her being "self taught."

Linda was working as a nurse, while pursuing her artistic interests part time - when, in 1987, Jay Johnson of Jay Johnson's America's Folk Heritage Gallery, on the upper east side of Madison Avenue in New York City, New York, discovered her.  She quickly became one of his top selling artists.

Her paintings continue to be found in  prestigious private collections, galleries, museums, and on various gift and other products worldwide. - She has also appeared in publications documenting major artists such as Grandma Moses, Edward Hicks, John Kane and Mattie Lou O'Kelley.

Linda is a prolific painter whom is known for her great attention to detail and strength of composition. The combination of her sensitivity along with her technical versatility becomes the vehicle that allows her to express, and to invite you to participate in, the aura of wonder and fascination hidden within each moment of life.

From the peaceful solitude of a country landscape, to the charm of a cat, a rooster, a black and white cow, a portrait, a flower, to the thrill of a carnival, or the warmth of a holiday, . . . , Linda brilliantly reveals her delight in life.

"My goal is to reveal to my collectors and viewers just how beautiful life can be."

 ~  Linda Mears
